Sko Buffs baby!
In my last blog, I discussed the upcoming game between Colorado and TCU, and how it would undeniably make or break my senior year fall. Luckily for you readers, we pulled out a win and all of my bets hit (more on this at the end of the blog), meaning you won’t have to listen to me bitch and moan all season…You’ll just have to listen to me hype up the Buffaloes like no man has ever done before.
This game was the most fun football game I’ve witnessed in recent memory. There was this weird mystery about how good our players actually were, and the suspense about whether hype was true or not made the end result that much sweeter. In the spirit of the season, I can say that the experience was similar to walking into a class on the first day of school and seeing all your best friends sitting there waiting for you with shit-eating grins on each of their faces. Just that feeling of “HELL YEAH…this year will be fun” puts a smile on your face and makes you giddy for the next class, or in my case, game.
ABSURD STATS FROM THE BUFFS
Leading the herd was Coach Prime’s son and starting quarterback, Shedeur Sanders. Shedeur threw for a school record 510 passing yards (Yes, you read that right. In his first game, against last year’s national championship runner-ups, he set a school record for passing yards). Adding to the 510 yards in the air, Sheduer threw four touchdowns and went a ridiculous 38-47 with no interceptions. In an interview on the Pat McAfee show today, Deion said that TCU offensive coordinator Kendal Briles disrespected Sheduer when he visited his school, growing the everlasting chip on his shoulder even larger and leading to Saturday’s heisman-like performance:
While Shedeur proved himself to be one of the Pac 12’s elite quarterbacks, his go to target, Travis Hunter, showed everybody that he is some of the best talent football has to offer. This guy played a mind boggling 129 snaps at both cornerback and wide receiver, pulling in 11 receptions for 119 yards on offense while locking up on D, even adding a diving goal line interception to his highlight tape.
Never had I seen a player be undeniably the best on both sides of the ball. Now I have, all thanks to Travis Hunter.
Travis Hunter and Sheduer Sanders were players most people knew about going into this game, but true freshman Dylan Edwards was not. I am going to be honest, I was not familiar with his game at all. That was, until he went out and recorded five receptions for 135 yards and three touchdowns, including the game winner. Oh, and he also rushed for 24 more yards, including another TD. Four total TD’s in your first college game? Are you kidding me??? I love this guy, and I can’t wait to witness everything he does for the Buffs over the next three years.
That stutter step was pure FILTH.
Xavier Weaver and Jimmy Horn Jr. were also active on offense, tallying 118 and 117 receiving yards respectively, including a TD to Jimmy. This marked the first time in Buffaloes’ history where four players logged over 100 receiving yards in the same game.
I can’t even begin to explain how good it felt writing that last sentence after suffering through last year’s season. God, this feels like a dream.
Okay, I think I have drooled over the Buffs enough for today. But don’t worry, there’s more to come on Friday, where I’ll give my predictions for Saturday’s home opener against Nebraska.
PS: I went up 24 units this past weekend, so I’d advise you to check back in for my picks. NFL will be back as well, and that’s where I do my best work, so follow us on Twitter @A2Zsportstakes to see all of my picks, including live action must-throws.
