Greetings reader, and happy election day. Outside of hoping you exercised your right to vote, I hope you’ve been soaking up these exceptional fall months of sports as well. I’m sure everybody will be busy consuming content surrounding the election, so I’ll keep this article short and sweet.
While the MLB playoffs and the start to the NFL, NHL, NBA, and NCAA seasons have been phenomenal, there’s been two sides to the Boston sports coin this year: outright success and utter failure. Looking at the teams that are in season right now (Patriots, Celtics, Bruins), the Celtics are looking like one of the greatest teams to ever touch the parquet, while the other two are looking like some of the worst to hit their respective surfaces.
Now, that’s not the fairest of assessments for the Bruins, who sit at 6-6-1 on the season, but they’re currently playing the Maple Leafs while I’m writing this, and the Leafs just scored another goal to go up 2-0, so it feels that way.
In all honesty, the Bruins overachieved with a sub par roster last season. They beat the aforementioned Leafs in the first round of the playoffs, but fell just short of besting the eventual Stanley Cup winning Panthers in the second. They brought in solid talent and re-signed key players in the offseason (a deeper dive into this can be found here) but have underperformed to start the season.
The Celtics, on the other hand, look like one of the best teams in the history of the NBA, and Kristaps is still months away from playing. It looks like Tatum and Brown are taking the criticism and disrespect they received in the offseason to heart, as both are playing their best ball, averaging 30 and 25.7 ppg respectively. This, coupled with the steady production from Al, Jrue, and D White have Boston off to a 7-1 start, with their only loss coming in an overtime thriller against the Pacers.
Lasty, the Patriots are back in the driver’s seat of the tankathon for the #1 pick after last week’s loss in Nashville. Simply put, this Patriots team is the worst I’ve seen in my lifetime. That being said, there’s some light at the end of the tunnel, with the main sources of that light being Drake Maye and a high (hopefully #1) draft pick.
As a Colorado Buffalo, I hope the Pats get Travis Hunter. Yes, the team needs an offensive line, but Travis is a generational player you’d be silly to pass up on. Who knows what the draft order will look like come draft day, but as of now, I’ve got my sights set on the He12man.
