New style of blog for today: Random Game Flashback. In the past when I’m a little bored or it’s pretty slow in the sports world, I’ve done things like Grab Bags or Highlight articles, but today I felt like doing something new.
It’s not going to be a long article, but the point is to just remind myself and the readers of a game that may have been forgotten but had something cool that might be fun to reminisce about. In this case, that game was in Miami on October 21, 2007, and it bred the screenshot that is the title picture for today’s article. Yes, that statline is real.
You could look at a bunch of different games from that Patriots season and just be in awe of how brutally they beat their opponents, some of which I may choose to take another look at in the future whether it be through another blog post or a Twitter thread. It’s a shame Asante Samuel dropped that interception in the Super Bowl or this would deservedly be widely regarded as the best team of all time.
Back to the game at hand. The Patriots have had some well documented struggles playing at Miami, but this game was not one of them. This Dolphins team went 1-15 by the way, so it was one of the best teams ever against one of the worst. The final score was 49-28, but that score is far closer than the game really was; the Dolphins put up 21 meaningless points in the fourth quarter to pull within 3 scores. The game was really over by halftime. It was 42-7 at the break.
The title picture tells the real story of the game. Quite frankly, Tom Brady and Randy Moss completely ass-blasted the poor Dolphins, then Halo-style teabagged them for good measure. And it was spectacular.
Those two catches were some of the most ridiculous catches I’ve ever seen and I feel like they’re underrated, especially the second one. Moss one-hand chicken-winged that ball in double coverage and he did it so casually that you would’ve thought he was playing catch in warm-ups.
4 catches, 122 yards, and 2 TDs for Moss. Not bad. Also, not even the biggest numbers for a Patriots receiver on the day. Wes Welker added 9 catches for 138 yards and 2 TDs.
Brady had one of his best career games, going 21-25 for 354 yards, 6 TDs, and no picks. His passer rating was a perfect 158.3. Brady might as well have shit in the Dolphins’ Cheerios while he was at it. It’s not like he could’ve embarrassed them more thoroughly.
This game was an example of peak football performance. That offense was firing on all cylinders. It doesn’t get much better than that.
