Stephen A. Smith has never been shy about calling out NBA stars. If we’re being honest, the man practically built his career on ripping into athletes with (objectively) hilarious slander. Here are a few of his famous rants if you’ve forgotten:
KWAME BROWN, A BONAFIDE SCRUB.
LAMAR ODOM, WHO WAS ON CRACK!
JAMARCUS RUSSELL, JABBA THE HUTT.
You get the point.
Recently, Stephen A. found his next target: Zion Williamson.
Ever since Zion Entered the league, he’s received heavy (pun intended) criticism for his weight, training regiment, and diet (not to mention his relations with pornstars last year). Shit, I do have to mention his relations with pornstars because it lead to one of the greatest SAS rants in the past few years:
Back to the topic on hand. At the start of his NBA career, Stephen A. defended Zion and his weight. When people tried saying that Zion’s game reflected Charles Barkley’s, aka the “Round Mound of Rebound”, SAS would respond like this:
But, now that a few years have gone by and the obvious visual evidence has stacked up against Zion like food trays in a dining hall, SAS has done a 180° and has started ripping into Zion as hard as he ripped into that poor caller.
That clip was from mid December, but a recent clip from only a few days ago was what sparked the feud with the Pelicans social media accounts:
This is where the Pelicans enter the arena. Over the past few years, team social media accounts have started stepping up their game when it comes to creating a unique social media presence. The first I can remember was the LA Chargers who have produced extremely creative schedule release videos like this one from last year:
Other teams have tried to create their own “feel” on socials, but the Pelicans have decided to go for the Wendy’s route, where they troll and meme their opposition into oblivion.
So, in response to Stephen A’s comments about Zion, they tweeted these two pieces of gold:
Needless to say, SAS was not thrilled with those jabs. So, he responded in a video that started out with “I don’t give a shit”, but went on for 10 more minutes, implying that Stephen A. Smith did in fact, give a shit. And a rather large one too:
But, it didn’t end there. The cherry on top of this whole altercation was the Pelican’s reply to SAS:
This prompted an outpouring of support in the replies to the Pelican’s posts, with content like this:
The next chapter of this great battle is still to come, and I can imagine the Pelicans becoming the Cowboys of the NBA for Stephen A. Smith, but for now I score this round 10-5 in favor of New Orleans.
That does it for today, leave a comment below and check back in tomorrow for more!
