The dark times are upon us once more. The passing of the Lombardi marks the end of the NFL season, and the start of over six football-less months of waiting. So, let’s say goodbye to another NFL season and begin looking forward to the next one. But first, let’s recap Sunday’s matchup:
SUPER BOWL Recap: CHIEFS BEAT EAGLES 38-35
Mahomes’ incredible performance earned him the Super Bowl MVP and carried the Chiefs to another title. He once again proves why he is the undisputed best player in the league, while also cementing himself as one off the toughest. There is no 1a/1b scenario for the king of QB’s with Allen or Burrow. Mahomes is THE guy, and he once again showed the world why this past Sunday.
The Eagles came out firing, scoring on their first drive and building a lead of ten by the half. Outside of his costly fumble-six Hurts looked terrific all game. He rushed for three touchdowns and threw for one, while racking up 374 total yards of offense. His strong performance in the loss gave me flashbacks to when Brady threw for 505 yards, three touchdowns, and had a passer rating of 115.2 in the Patriots loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl 52.
Where Philly lacked was their D line, which had been phenomenal all season. They had the second most sacks ever recorded for a regular season, yet they couldn’t touch Mahomes at all on Sunday. This was especially evident in the second half, which the Chiefs played to perfection.
THE CALL THAT MUST BE TALKED ABOUT
It’s unfortunate to say, but the end of the game was decided by a poor call, not great play. On third and long with 1:54 left to play, James Bradberry was called on a suspect hold:
If not called, the Chiefs would be forced to kick a field goal and give the ball back to Hurts with about 1:45 drive and score. Butker would surely hit from that distance, it’s just a question of whether Philly would drive down and tie or win the game. I think they do. Hurts was solid, and they had just driven and scored to tie on their previous possession.
I just feel like the world was robbed of bonus football. It especially hurts since we never got the chance to see the new overtime rules in place, and the Super Bowl was the perfect chance to put them on display.
