WILL COACH PRIME MAKE OR BREAK MY FALL IN TOMORROW’S GAME?

Coach Prime

The time has finally come. It is my senior year here at Colorado Boulder, and tomorrow, the Buffs play their first game since Deion Sanders took over as head coach and renovated the entire organization floor to ceiling. Needless to say, my excitement to see the Avengers-like team that Coach Prime has assembled cannot be contained.

Since Deion took over, our football program has remained in the headlines of sports media organizations across the country. However, while expectations couldn’t be higher, at the same time, it seems they are still lower than ever. We are projected to finish second to last in the Pac 12, our win total over/under is currently set at 3.5, and these are our lines for the game tomorrow:

A 20.5 point spread? Are you serious?

After all of this hype, after all of these great players and coaches were brought in, why does Vegas think that nothing will really change? When I watched our team from last season, I knew we had one of the worst teams in the history of college football, but I also know that this season will most definitely be different. We retained only 10 of our players from last season, and every single player that was brought in through the portal outmatches the ones that they replaced. And that’s not even mentioning the coaching changes.

I can say that I truly believe, with all of my heart, that last year we were the worst coached team I’ve ever witnessed in any sport. And believe me, I had some shitty coaches growing up that I despised for their terrible decision making, but somehow I still think that with the right knowledge, they would’ve done a better job than Karl Dorrell did for the first five games of the season. To be honest, I was surprised that he lasted five games before getting fired. From stupid penalties, to countless checkdowns on third and long, you name the bad coaching decision/playcall, he committed it.

Deion WILL be different, and in a year where the Pac 12 has arguably the best quarterback class it’s ever seen, his knowledge when it comes to defense, specifically pass coverage, will be invaluable. If somehow we are still terrible, my fall will be completely ruined.

Tomorrow is the first test. As I mentioned earlier, the current spread for the game is set at a whopping 20.5. In my mind, I see us bringing a serious battle to last year’s second place Horned Frogs, so I’m throwing some solid action that we will cover. Not only that, but I am also throwing on our moneyline. Think of it this way, if we do win this game tomorrow, we will likely never see a line more favorable than +740 all season. As a business decision (definitely not out of bias), I feel obligated to act in an economically intelligent way. I mean, I am an Econ major after all, so I have to put that knowledge to use somewhere if I’m going to spend all my time writing these blogs.

Sorry to end it abruptly, but that’s it for today’s blog. I have to get some beauty sleep if I want to perform at my best tomorrow. Expect Monday’s article to be either really upbeat if we win, or really downhearted if we get destroyed. See you then!
